Weather & Random Thoughts

The Storm Prediction Center has us in a slight risk for severe weather tomorrow. We probably will get some quick downpours and brief gusty winds but I think the chance for any tornadoes looks better in places like Missouri where there will be better upper level support.
Here's the SPC Day1 Outlook:
Now for random thoughts! I just have one thing to say-the Orlando Magic better win tonight!

Wednesday's Rain

Some of the first measurable rainfall for the month of June will occur tomorrow. Looking back, May was a very wet month! In Fayetteville we had 7.95" of rain and in Fort Smith rainfall totals came to 8.91".

In June we usually receive 4.30" of rain and by the time tomorrow's cold front moves out we could see anywhere between 0.25-1.00".

Here's the QPF through Wednesday evening:

Enjoy the rain!

It's June 1st!!!

Hey it's June 1st and you know what that means; it's the first official day of hurricane season. Ok so let's take a look and see what's out there shall we!

Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center.

And here's what there saying:
A NON-TROPICAL AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED A COUPLE HUNDRED MILESNORTH-NORTHEAST OF THE AZORES ISLANDS IS PRODUCING WINDS TO NEARGALE FORCE. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW HAVEBECOME A LITTLE LESS ORGANIZED DURING THE PAST FEW HOURS. THISSYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE NORTHWARD OVER COOLER WATERS DURING THENEXT DAY OR TWO. THERE IS A LOW CHANCE...LESS THAN 30 PERCENT...OFTHIS SYSTEM BECOMING A SUBTROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48HOURS. ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THENEXT 48 HOURS.

Ok, so all that pretty much means there's nothing going on right now but here's a cool picture of this low.

If you are planning on keeping up with the names this tropical season here's the list for 2009.

A Warm End To The Month

Today was one of the warmest days that we've had for the month of May! Just last Wednesday temperatures were in the 60s and 70s but today we were in the 80s and 90s.

It looks like our warm pattern will be interrupted on Wednesday with some showers and thunderstorms but don't worry, the warmth will return by the end of the week!

Here's a look at the QPF through Wednesday.

We could possibly pick up 0.25"-0.50" of rain between Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley.

Warmer For The Weekend!

We could see our first 90 degree readings of the season this weekend.
Here's a map of surface temperatures among other things. Notice the light orange color across Oklahoma and Arkansas; that indicates temperatures closing in on 90 degrees or more.
Enjoy the warm weather!

Low over NWA

The low pressure is centered right over NWA with more showers and thunderstorms developing with peak daytime heating. Look for additional rain to move across the region overnight tonight into tomorrow and continuing until the low moves across our area. Drier weather for later this week.

I'm Glad It's Not August!!

Visible Sat Image On Sunday Afternoon

Well it looks like we’re in the middle of hurricane season with this low (upper low) spinning right over Arkansas. LOL! It kind of reminds me of Gustav and Ike from last year! Do you remember those storms? Of course those were tropical systems and this one is not.
Luckily for us and Florida (I know they’re breathing a sigh of relief) hurricane season doesn’t begin until June 1st. Most of the time it’s highly unlikely for tropical systems to impact our area but we had two that did last year. I’m glad this is not the middle of July or August. Hopefully this is not a hint to what we can expect this year, hmmmmmmm!
